As I am sure you all know, water plays an essential part in our survival.  Our bodies are made up of 50-75% water and is used in almost all of our major bodily functions.  Experts recommend adults drink half of their body weight in ounces every day. Most people are chronically dehydrated due to lack of water intake.

Did you know?

  • people often confuse thirst for hunger which leads to overeating
  • a majority of the time a headache is caused by dehydration; try a glass of water before over the counter medication

Why so Important?

  • regulates body temperature
  • lubricates joints
  • aids in digestion
  • keeps skin moist
  • helps your body burn calories
  • gives you more energy

For those of you that don’t know me, I am big into drinking water and have a water bottle with me at all times, especially now that I am nursing.  I also make sure to give my toddler water as often as possible.  I do not allow my kids to drink juices, unless it’s fresh, because of the high sugar content and additives.  As many of you parents know, kids aren’t really into plain water so instead of adding juice I add fresh fruits and make my own infusions.  It’s a great time to get creative and even let your kids help.  My daughter’s favorite is raspberry water.  I simply add frozen raspberries to a pitcher of water or directly into her cup.  The frozen fruit helps keep the water cold and it will change the color to a beautiful pink!

Some of my personal favorites are pictured below.  My daughter will drink these as well, but sometimes the herbs might be too powerful so I just put a small amount.

What’s your favorite water infusion?!?
