We are right in the middle of winter and cabin fever is an understatement.  I am always trying to find new ways to keep my kids busy.  Sometimes the simplest things will entertain a toddler for what seems like hours.  Pom poms will do the trick on those long winter days.  Both of my toddlers love them.  Sometimes I even find them sharing and playing together!!

Scroll down to see all of the different ways we use the pom poms.  The possibilities are endless!

Measuring/Pretend Cooking

My girls love to pretend to make “soup” with the pom poms and it’s a great opportunity to teach them about measuring.  They love to fill the measuring cups and empty into larger bowls.

Color Sorting

I have large colorful bowls and a cupcake pan they use for color sorting.  Using tongs/tweezers to pick up each pom poms and put into the correct colored bowl or cup is great for their fine motor skills.  This color sorting activity is a really fun way to teach your toddlers about color.

Crafts

There are so many different types of crafts you can make with pom poms.  I recently made caterpillar clothes pins to hold my kids artwork.

I also found a few different ideas on Pinterest:

Sweeping Activity

Sweeping is a great way to teach kids basic life skills, plus they always want to do what Mom and Dad are doing.  I literally just dump out the bowl of pom poms on the floor (already pre-swept/vacuumed so they aren’t touching all of the real dirt from the floor!) and give them their broom/dust pan.  I have also seen people create a box on the floor with painters tape as a guide.
