A while back I purchased the Montessori stamp game to keep as a math manipulative for my children as they get older. The game basically has small wooden squares with ones places, tens place, hundreds, and thousands. Although I do not have any formal Montessori training, I have watched several videos on all the different ways you can use this educational tool. My kids are in public school and are learning a different way, but they do love math (they get it from their Math teacher father and not me lol). It has been a great tool to explain adding and eventually subtracting larger numbers. It’s even helping me to fully understand division. Some people learn better with visuals and this stamp game is just that. In true Montessori fashion, I wanted to create some kind of a mat for the game to go on. I searched the internet for the different ways people set it up and presented it to children. I decided to create a mat out of felt (if you’re a follower, this will not surprise you!) with the 3 different colors matching the wooden squares. It is another visual cue for kids to understand where the places are. I also created a long black felt horizontal line and repurposed some math signs from a different toy for them to set up the math problem. I am even including the free print out I made with the same color matching. This can be used as a full sheet of paper or cut into smaller squares and presented with the game. Check out my video below and see how easy it is to make your own stamp game mat.
