This post is sponsored by Hannah and includes my honest review of their HannahPad.
Over the years I have been looking for ways to reduce my carbon footprint and I am constantly learning more about what our everyday products are made of. Feminine products are full of toxic chemicals and most do not use organic cotton. Not to mention, they are not sustainable for our environment when millions of sanitary products are dumped into landfills every year. I was excited when the company Hannah reached out to me to try our their reusable pads. Over the past 7 years, I have either been pregnant or nursing so I haven’t had too many mensural cycles and as my body gets back to its natural state I need to start thinking about what types of feminine products I want to be using. See below why HannahPads will now be my go to for any of my feminine product needs.
Natural and Non Toxic
HannahPads are made with organic cotton with no harmful chemicals which also makes it breathable and soft. When it comes to such a sensitive area, I know I want something non toxic and comfortable. They also come in several different colors and patterns, so not only are they great for your body, they are beautiful. I love how they fold in and snap so that you can carry them with you, but those snaps are also used to keep them attached to your underwear. Each pad (except for the overnight ones) have little silicone dots that help keep the pads in place while you are moving around. There is a size for everyday of your flow.
Sustainable
Since the HannahPads are made of cloth you can wash and reuse them over and over which is much better for our environment. Traditional disposable pads are usually made with plastic materials and can take many years before they biodegrade. HannahPad should be replaced every 2 years depending on how often you are using them. Once you are done with your pad, remove the plastic snaps and put them in recycling then throw the rest into your compost. The inner layers will decompose in a year and the outer TPU coating (non toxic and waterproof) will take 3-5 years. Read here for more information regarding the sustainability.
Cost Effective
When you start to think about the amount of money women have to spend on their periods every month, it can really add up quickly. Even if you are using these pads to replace overnight ones or as pantyliners, you will significantly decrease your costs. Hannah sells a different range of sets, but their one week pack is only $119. Depending on how many pads you use during your monthly flow you can cover the cost in a few months. Shop all of the sizes and sets here.
Donates to Women in Need
There are so many women who do not have access or the means to purchase proper feminine care products. This is something I know I have always taken for granted and love to support a company who donates to women in need around the globe.
As a mom to 4 little kids ages 6 and under, my time and energy is very limited! Not to mention how much laundry I already do for a family of 6, it is hard to imagine I will be washing sanitary pads on top of that. With that being said my goal is to be as sustainable as I can, while keeping my sanity at the same time. I am going to continue to use HannahPads as a replacement for my overnight pads and pantyliners while I use their HannahCup as my main period product. I like the idea of having a little extra protection while using a menstrual cup, especially during a heavy flow. This way I am reducing my carbon footprint, saving money, protecting my body against chemicals, and not adding too much laundry to my already packed schedule.
